Dr. Shapiro is widely recognized by his colleagues as a leading practitioner and teacher of the most advanced hair restoration procedure – follicular unit hair transplantation. He adopted this procedure early in the 1990s and helped popularize this advanced procedure. He was the first physician honored to demonstrate this surgery live before a wide audience of colleagues at the ISHRS annual meeting in 1995.
He continues to share his techniques with his medical colleagues by lecturing frequently at national and international hair restoration conferences, running workshops and performing live surgical demonstrations. Physicians from around the world visit Dr Shapiro's Clinic, not only to observe his surgeries, but to benefit from them as patients. Many hair transplant surgeons have selected Dr. Shapiro for their own personal hair restoration surgery.
Dr. Shapiro also has an outstanding reputation amongst patients who frequent online discussion forums and online hair loss communities. He is known for consistently producing exceptionally natural hairlines and for being extremely compassionate, generous, and personable.
Dr. Shapiro is the founder and medical director of The Shapiro Medical Group in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His clinic specializes in Follicular Unit Transplantation and hairlines that are world renown for their naturalness. Dr. Shapiro is joined at his well regarding hair restoration clinic by his associates Dr. Sharon Keene, Dr. Glenn Charles, and Dr. Paul Rose. They also perform Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation surgery at his clinic and are also very well regarded hair restoration physicians in their own right.
Dr. Shapiro was among the first to pass the boards in the newly created American Board of Hair Restoration. In 2000 he was also elected to the Board of Governors for the American Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ASHRS). That same year he earned the "Archimedes" award for excellence in hair restoration from the Italian Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
Since 1999 Dr. Shapiro has served on the Board of Governors to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS). He recently completed work in writing and editing major sections of Dr. Walter Unger’s well regarded textbook – “Hair Transplantation”.
